Obituary for Elaine M. Jerew

Rensselaer- Elaine Fremgen Jerew, age 67, of Rensselaer passed away Tuesday July 29, 2008 at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine graduated from St. JohnÂ’s High School in 1959 and was then employed by the New York Telephone Company. She left the Telephone Company to raise her three children. In later years she managed the East Greenbush Wine and Liquor Store and retired in 2003. Elaine enjoyed day trips, classic movies, plays, special lunches, spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She had a special sense of humor and was always able to see the good in people.
Wife of Verne Jerew whom she married on August 11, 1962. Beloved mother of Tracy Hart (Todd) of Rensselaer, Michael Jerew (Crystal) of Clayton, NC and predeceased by her loving son Kevin Jerew. Grandmother to her adorned Kachelle and Brett Hart and Amanda Jerew. Daughter of the late John J. Fremgen Sr. and Helen Kemmy Fremgen. She is survived by her brothers John J. Fremgen Jr., Thomas H. Fremgen both of Rensselaer and Mark Fremgen (Linda) of Colonie and her sisters, Kathryn Edick of Rensselaer, Christine Fremgen (John Fusco) of Castleton, Carol Bradt of Rensselaer, Mary Ellen Fremgen (Michael Moreno) of Reno, Nevada and Annette Tuffey (Chief James W.) of Albany. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
The family wishes to express special thanks for the exceptional care Elaine received from the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County especially Raymond Essiembre, Karen Haley, Rev. Tony Green, Karen Grover and Stephanie DeFrees and Father Adam Forno pastor of St. John the Evangelist and St. JosephÂ’s Church Rensselaer for his spiritual care. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Friday morning and 11:30 and 12:30 in the afternoon at St. JohnÂ’s Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
