Slingerland-Marcia Yaggle Lehner, passed away at her residence Monday September 19, 2011. She was in born in Rensselaer and was a longtime resident of the city. Mrs. Lehner was a graduate of St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer Class of 1935, St. Rose College Magna Cum Laude graduate in 1939 with a BA degree, where she was Class President for 4 years. She also received her Master’s Degree from New York State College of Teachers (now UAlbany). She was a Captain in the US Marine Corps during World War II serving in Washington, DC. Marcia was employed as a mathematics teacher at Van Rensselaer High School and Middle School for many years. She was a member of the Rensselaer Board of Education from 1979-1990. Marcia and her husband Joseph were former members of the Albany Country Club and Wolferts Roost Country Club.
Wife of the late Joseph George Lehner whom she married on June 28, 1947 and who passed away on May 11, 2005; mother of the late Mark Allen Lehner; grandmother of Erich Michael Lehner; mother-in-law of Annette Juneau Lehner.
A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be offered on Saturday September 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Mater Christi Church 40 Hopewell Street Albany. All are welcome to attend. Interment will follow mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
