Life Story for Mary M. Hogan (Mahar)

Mary M. Hogan (Mahar)
East Greenbush – Mary Hogan, 86, died peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2014 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of Professor John A. Mahar and Anna (May) Mahar. Mary graduated from St. John’s Academy, where she made many lifelong friends, and the Mildred Elley Business School. She was the beloved wife for 50 years of the late William F. Hogan and the loving mother of William (Carla), Mark (Kathy), Patty Familo (John), Eileen Maloney (Steve), and Chris (Sharon), and adored grandmother of Sarah, Kerri, Kara, Keeley, Jacob, and Ryan Hogan; Erin, Sean, Colleen, Bridget, and Noelle Maloney; Jeffrey and Luke Familo; and Laura (Sean) Croft.

Mary is also survived by her brother William (Carina) Mahar and was predeceased by her siblings Edith, John, Thomas (Tim), Joseph, and Edward Mahar; Aileen Quigley; Sarah Matochik; and Ann Gallagher.

Mary was a woman of strong faith and a long-time communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary was proud of her Irish heritage and visited the Emerald Isle a number of times with her husband. She was an avid reader and a loyal fan of Notre Dame football, Duke basketball, the Yankees, and the Giants.

Mary’s family thanks the staff of Hawthorne Ridge and St. Peter’s Hospice Inn for their exemplary care.
