Obituary for
Herbert E. James
East Greenbush- Herbert E. James age 91 years of East Greenbush passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Evergreen Commons. He was born in Somerset, MA to the late George C. and Annie Andrews James. Herbert attended Somerset High School where he played baseball before he entered the Army Air Corps. During WWII, Mr. James was a flight engineer on the B-29 and a co-pilot on the B-17. After an honorable discharge as a 2nd Lieutenant Mr. James moved to East Greenbush and was employed by the Time Union as a stereotyper. After retirement, Herbert being known for his kind-hearted and gentle soul enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital. He also was an avid woodworker and enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. Husband of Evelyn Pectal James and the late Irene C. James. Father of Barbara James Williams (former son-in-law Edward) and the late Sandra James and Patricia Horgan. Step-father of Kim and Kraig (Linda) Decker. Grandfather of Lilly, Caitlin, Erica, Joseph and Christopher. Step-grandfather of Matthew, Lindsey and Joshua. Great grandfather of Tyler, Ryan, Patrick and Maci. Also survived by his sister Audrey and one nephew Wynne.
Funeral will be from W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Tuesday afternoon at 1:00PM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
