Saratoga Springs- Elizabeth Martha Emery, 96,  passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at her residence in Wesley Health Care Center. She was born in Albany, NY on April 20, 1921, the eldest daughter of James Collins and Elizabeth Geary. She was the widow of William Joseph Emery (died 1983) and was the proud mother of Michael Emery (Stephani) who survives her. She was predeceased by her cherished sister Adeline Margaret Armstrong and her brother in law Joseph Armstrong. She is also survived by her nephew, James P. Armstrong (Teresa) and niece Linda Cairns (David), great-nephew Joseph Armstrong (Andrea) and great-niece Andrea Taylor (Michael). She is further survived by her great-great nephew Jaxon Armstrong, and great-great nieces Stella Armstrong and Sydney and Jordan Taylor. Also survived by dear friends Albie and Joe Vasta.
  She attended Albany High School and received a Business degree from Mildred Elley School, and has resided in Albany, Glenmont, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs NY. She kept the offices organized successively during her employment at Sealtest Ice Cream, Our Lady of Angels Seminary, and Agway, Inc. After her retirement, she volunteered in the office of St. Anne/St. John’s Church and worked for local publications The Eagle and The Jewish World. Early in life she was very active playing tennis, ice skating, and square dancing. Later in life she won several awards as an avid bowler into her 90’s, and was a member of the St. Joseph Rosary Bowling League.
  Known fondly as Martha by her family and friends, she studied piano, and enjoyed playing informally well as attending musical performances of all kinds. Those who knew her will remember her flair for style, sharp wit and intelligence, joke telling abilities, and joy in spending time with family and friends on holidays and special occasions.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Glens Falls Symphony PO Box 2036, Glens Falls,  NY 12801. Services are under the direction of Lyons Funeral Home in Rensselaer NY. wjlyonsfuneralhome.com  Calling hours will be 4-7 pm on Thursday, December 7, at the funeral home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 8, at  St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church Herrick Street Rensselaer, NY followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont, NY.
