Obituary for Doris Marie Gensheimer (Kent )

West Sand Lake, NY

Doris Marie Kent Gensheimer passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at her home. Born on September 16, 1933, in Staten Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Wile) Kent. Doris is survived by her daughter Heidi (Gensheimer) Buono and son in law Michael Buono and beloved grandchildren, Patrick, Zachary and Leah, all of East Greenbush, NY. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Gallagher of West Palm Beach, Florida and Barbara Martini of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, as well as niece Kathleen Dash, nephews Gregory, James and Todd Martini and families. She was predeceased by her niece, Lynn Martini. She also cherished her adopted family by marriage - Judy and Steve Buono, and the many extended Buono family members.

Doris graduated from Russell Sage College with a degree in nursing and was a nurse for 21 years at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. She became a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) later in her career, and was proud of her work in this field. She was also very active in the Capital District Chapter of the WOCN group. She retired from being an active nurse in January of 1999 but maintained close ties to her many friends in the field.

Having raised her daughter as a single mother, her greatest joy and pride were her three grandchildren. Many happy times were had during summers at her pool, working in her gardens, skiing with friends, and traveling to different places with her friends and sister.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the WJ Lyons Funeral Home in Rensselaer, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church , Gilligan Road, East Greenbush. Burial to follow at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery in Rensselaer, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made in Doris’ memory to the Lyme Research Alliance c/o Heidi Buono 492 Palmer Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
