Obituary for
Alain A. Roullier
Albany- New York's Capital District has lost one half of its long-enduring bohemian "power couple" whose theater is on the corner of Hudson and Lark.
Alain Roullier left this life reluctantly on May 11.
Well known for his talent behind the camera lens, Alain enjoyed viewing the world through his black box. He was transformed when his camera was around his neck, and he transformed the camera into his magician's box. These days, everyone takes pictures; but Alain was a Photographer. His could transform an everyday scene into a story, and then into a work of art.
Alain was a true bon vivant and epicure, savoring jazz and opera as he orchestrated spectacular meals. He delighted in building his day around planning a get-together with a small group of friends, centered around his masterly culinary creations. Meals were also his works of art, no matter if served with elegance or on the porch.
At home, his treasured cats and books surrounded him. His appetite for knowledge and sharp intellect made him a renaissance man. Alain was a man who was deeply loved by those who knew him, and was an intensely loving and loyal friend in return. He respected and enjoyed each person’s uniqueness. He spoke with everyone and explored each new acquaintance as the potential 'next most exciting adventure'.
Alain renewed his marriage vows to Maude Baum in Provincetown, Massachusetts in an intimate ceremony on the beach. It was a most memorable day, the culmination of and the tribute to his greatest work of art: "MaudeandAlain" an inseparable team for 47 years.
True to himself, this creative and genuine soul will be missed by Maude, his wife; Helen, his sister; Paul, his nephew; Kris Ann, his niece; Gail, his cousin and many extended family members including Margaret, his mother-in-law; and caring sisters-in-law. Please share fond memories and humorous stories in the memories book.
